This weekend Meribel is hosting a World Cup event and for the last week the resort has been putting the final touches in place to welcome the competitors and the fans. The flags are now flying, the new one-way road system is in place and the final signage has been put up. The racing on Saturday and Sunday will see the next exciting installment of the Women’s downhill and super-combined race and as there are two French skiers in the top 15 world downhill skiers, we are expecting a large crowd of spectators. Marion Rolland, one of the French skiers is currently World Number One and her compatriot, Marie Marchand-Arvier is in 6th position so the French are expecting great things. The pre-race entertainment starts at 9.45 on Saturday 23rd with music and a display of paragliders and continues after the race with music, DJs and an electro-light show before the prize giving ceremony for the Downhill Race at 18.00. On Sunday the action starts at 11am with slalom with a closing party courtsey of the Folie Douce. The snow and the race slope are in fantastic condition and for today’s practice runs, the sun is shining and the resort could not look better. Perhaps the only disappointment (particulary amongst the male inhabitants of the resort ) is the absence of the glamourous American skier, Lindsey Vonn who will miss the race due to injury. The meticulous preparation and planning bodes well for the resort which will also be holding the Finals of the World Cup in 2015. We are in for an exciting weekend of inspiring skiing and some great partying!
