Breakfast – the best meal of the day ?

We all know the importance of eating a good breakfast to set us up for the day ahead and this is particularly important when on a skiing holiday. The science-fiction writer, Robert Heinlein said ” One should not attend even the end of the world without a good breakfast.” So with this in mind, we spend a lot of time ensuring that we serve healthy and filling breakfasts in the chalets so that everyone is set up for a good day on the slopes.

We are very lucky to have great French ‘boulangeries’ close by our chalets so every morning we have wonderful freshly baked baguette, croissant and pain au chocolate and, thanks to the wonderful team at ‘Le Village des Pains’ in Meribel Village, we also have ‘un pain Viking’ which is the most delicious brown, seeded loaf imaginable. We try to ensure that we are offering exactly what our clients want at breakfast, as this is a meal where very few people want to start experimenting with new foods. So in addition to cereals, fresh fruit platter, yoghurts and fruit juices we serve a selection of fresh breads and pastries and a cooked option ranging from porridge to traditional ‘English’ and from smoked salmon and scrambled eggs to poached eggs on toast.

One of the great things about Avery Crest is our international client base so we have also learnt some different breakfast dishes from our clients. From our wonderful visitors from Cape Town we learnt a new use for avocado – just perfect sliced with grilled bacon on toast or served with a poached egg. Delicious and so healthy ! Alternatively the lovely Boris from Kiev showed us that a salad of pepper, tomato and watercress with olive oil was the perfect partner to a fried egg whilst from our Swiss guests we learnt that Cenovis is the Marmite of Switzerland and is particularly delicious served on toast with a boiled egg.

We pride ourselves that by Day 2 of the holiday we know exactly who likes builder’s tea, who likes their Nespresso strong or who prefers a cleansing green tea with mint so that breakfast runs smoothly as we know that not everyone is wide awake first thing in the morning. So to a background of soothing music and with spectacular views of the mountains we try to ensure that we have provided the best possible start to a fantastic day’s skiing.
